Besides a brief history of management, the tasks and responsibilities of a manager are outlined in this module. Thereby reflecting on today’s business environment relating to culture, ethics and social responsibility. Decision making is a central task of a manager, whereby relevant techniques for creative problem solving are being introduced. At its core, the module focuses on the management tasks of the following points.
Trainees will gain insight on the role of the manager in an organization reflecting the environmental aspects such as culture, ethics and social responsibility. Thereby managing diversity in a global environment is key
Planning (strategic and operational)
The module will focus on creative problem solving and decision making methods. This will include decision support models being used in business practice and evaluating the planning aspect of management.
Organizing (structures and systems)
Plans require implementation and this is the subject of this module. Various organizational structures (functional, object oriented, tensor, networks) are going to be discussed and compared in the view of a customer oriented organization.
Leading (corporate culture and leadership)
Structures and systems function best when a customer oriented corporate culture is established. This part of the module focuses on organizational behaviour and motivational leadership qualities.
Controlling (learning from experience)
It is essential to define the purpose and role of controlling methods and concepts. This will tie in with various areas such as marketing, finance, human resource and quality.
